Get To Know ... Rayburn

We are very excited to launch the brand Rayburn on our website this week, with their very impressive Rayburn Ranger©!

For over 75 years, the iconic Rayburn by AGA has been the warm heart of many British homes. A sister company to AGA, Rayburn offer an iconic design with reliability and functionality, showing exactly why they have been such a success.

AGA Rayburn iron masters have continued the traditions of skilled craftsmanship from the past, with each model manufactured with genuine passion and pride. Built from solid cast iron, each is made with keen attention to detail, from the skilled casting of the molten iron to the multiple coats of high gloss, shining vitreous enamel.

Each AGA Rayburn is steeped in history. These range cookers are designed by engineers with years of experience and built by craftsmen on the same site in Telford, Shropshire, that Abraham Darby once discovered the casting process that started the Industrial Revolution. Today’s Rayburn cookers are the pinnacle of efficiency and flexibility, transforming your kitchen into a truly welcoming space.

Building on their classic designs and proud heritage, Rayburn’s today are made from 70% recycled materials which makes them a great choice along with their sleek, forward-thinking technology. Read on to find out more…

What is the difference between an AGA and a Rayburn?

An AGA is a heat storage cooker, with it always being switched on with varying levels of heat throughout its different ovens. Some models of AGA can be turned off, and others can heat domestic water, but the traditional AGA is purely for cooking whilst also keeping your kitchen very warm.

Rayburn cookers have always been known for their ability to supply central heating and hot water within the home, allowing you to control the temperature of the main oven and hotplate. The newest Rayburn model can now also run off electricity, although this model is purely a range cooker – and that is why we love it!

What is radiant cooking?

Having an understanding of how heat is transferred, as well as how it can affect your cooking, can be very important when deciding which method to use. This is relevant with the launch of AGA Rayburn on our website, with this product being the first we offer that uses radiant heat for cooking.

Heat can travel from one place to another in three different ways: Convection, Conduction and Radiation. With conduction and convection, matter is required in order to transfer heat. Radiant heat is heat transferred directly from a heat source to an object, as opposed to through the air, like convection, or through a solid, like conduction.

With radiation, heat can be transmitted through empty space by thermal radiation which is often known as infrared radiation. Examples of this are when you warm your hands over a fire or lying in the sun to get warm. It is also used when heating up food within a microwave.

This gentle form of heat transfer creates dedicated heat zones at pre-set temperatures, whilst also having the ability to cook food quickly with radiant heat. What you end up with is food full of flavour, with it helping to retain its texture, moisture and goodness. Radiant heat brings out the best in food because it is kind to it, enabling you to produce tastier and often healthier dishes.

The Product

The Rayburn Ranger© is a totally flexible and controllable cast-iron range cooker. It brings a gorgeous retro styling and the option of four beautifully bold and four subtle, more neutral shades, designed perfectly to suit any kitchen design.

This impressive range cooker includes two large capacity radiant ovens, plus a warming oven, which can all be operated independently. All three ovens have cast-iron doors with magnetic catches for smooth, ergonomic closure. The roasting/simmering/baking ovens heat up in just two hours, with the very flexible E-setting allowing for lower temperature cooking in each cavity. The warming oven can be used independently from the other ovens and is perfect for warming plates and keeping meals at ideal temperature for serving.

The roasting cavity also includes a handy 900W grill, which provides four flexible grilling positions for both fast and slow cooking. On top is a two-zone induction hob that hosts a set of handy features, including boil dry detection, pot detection and power boost function which provides ten minutes of maximum power. Next to this is a large cast iron hotplate, holding multiple pans and can be set to either boiling or simmering mode.

Finishing this stunning range cooker is the exterior, available in eight charming colours:

The simple control panel switches the ovens and hotplate temperatures with ease, and the Rayburn Ranger© doesn’t require a plinth, flue or any annual servicing.
