Installation

What gas and electric connections do I need?
This depends on the fuel type you wish to purchase. Dual fuel range cookers typically require a bayonet fitting gas connection and a 32amp electrical connection from a fused switch. Induction cookers typically require a minimum 45amp fused electrical connection (although Stoves and Belling induction models will run off 32amp).
How much space do I need to leave?
The only gap required either side of the cooker is to facilitate ease of positioning, so typically 2-5mm. Quite often a range cooker is built slightly narrower than its or all installation nominal width to accommodate this.
If unsure about installation specific issues in your kitchen, we recommend consulting a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.
Range Cooker Width
Which width cooker do I need?
This depends entirely on if you are replacing an existing range cooker, or having a range cooker as part of a new kitchen or kitchen refurb. If replacing an existing cooker you will need to measure the width and match accordingly. Popular widths are 90cm, 100cm and 110cm. Narrower and wider range cookers are available.
If starting from scratch, choice of width comes down to personal preference. Each width offers different oven layouts and sizes, and as the width increases so does the number of burners or zones on the hob.
Range Cooker Fuel Type
What is dual fuel?
Dual fuel range cookers combine gas burners and electric ovens.
What is induction?
Induction is the latest technology to be used on electric hobs. It utilises an electromagnet under the hob surface to pass heat directly to the pan above, thereby minimising energy wastage and heat loss to the surrounding area. It is fast, responsive, efficient and safe.
I've heard I need special pans for induction - is that right?
The only specific requirement for induction friendly pans is a magnetic, or ferrous, base.
Which fuel type is the most environmentally friendly?
We consider induction to be the ‘greenest’ fuel type due to the combination of its efficiency, and the increasing use of renewable methods to generate electricity to power homes.
Hoods
Do I need a cooker hood?
While not necessarily needed, we recommend adding a cooker hood to any kitchen environment. It will remove grease, odours and steam from the air.
Should I extract or recirculate?
If possible, we always suggest extraction through a vent on an external wall - this allows the hood to run at its most efficient. If that isn't possible, recirculation through carbon filters inside the hood will provide almost as good performance as extraction.
How powerful should my hood be?
A useful starting point is to take the volume of your kitchen in cubic metres (width x length x height) then multiply by ten. This will give you a rough figure for the required extraction rate of the hood. Additionally, the more powerful the hood, the less need to run it at a higher speed so the quieter it will be in use!
Warranties
Who holds the warranty of my new range cooker?
All warranties are provided by the manufacturer. Should you have any issues within the warranty period of your new cooker, you should contact the manufacturer in the first instance. The details can be found here.
Does my warranty cover commercial use?
All of the cookers sold on our website are designed specifically for domestic use. While some may be of commercial standard, the manufacturer's warranty won't cover usage in commercial premises.
